Cordwainer Councilman George Gillon was awarded the MBE in the 2017 New Year Honours List.
Congratulating George on the award Cordwainer’s Alderman Sir Roger Gifford said –
“George richly deserves the MBE. He has an outstanding record in the City, having represented the Ward of Cordwainer since 1995. He has served as Chief Commoner and as Sheriff of London – two of the most senior positions in the City. He has also sat on numerous committees, including the Policy and Resources Committee and the Planning and Transportation Committee, and for three years chaired the Committee which oversees the City’s extensive property portfolio. He has been always diligent and thorough, but never seeking the limelight.
George’s many friends were delighted to hear of his award. No one has been more deserving of such an honour.”
George, a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, advised many City Institutions on their real estate and was Master of the Chartered Surveyors’ Livery Company. The citation for his appointment also recognises his service to the Scottish community in London as well as to the City. He was for some years Chairman of the Caledonian Club – now Vice President – and is the Ambassador to the Royal Scottish Corporation – ScotsCare.
