{"id":883,"date":"2021-05-28T12:41:04","date_gmt":"2021-05-28T12:41:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cordwainer.co.uk\/?p=883"},"modified":"2021-05-28T12:45:12","modified_gmt":"2021-05-28T12:45:12","slug":"city-of-london-corporation-pays-tribute-to-sir-roger-gifford","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cordwainer.co.uk\/?p=883","title":{"rendered":"City of London Corporation pays Tribute to Sir Roger Gifford"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"maintable\" class=\"maintables\">\n<div class=\"pp-main-column main_padding\">\n<div class=\"top_main_case\">\n<p>The City of London Corporation paid tribute to <strong>Sir Roger Gifford<\/strong>, Lord Mayor of the City of London in 2012-13, who died at home on 25 May from myeloma.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content_main_case content_main_case_right\">\n<article class=\"div_text_companyprofile\">\n<div class=\"title_companyprofile\">\n<div class=\"ppmodule_textblock pp_moduleblock\">\n<div class=\"text_companyprofile\">\n<div class=\"pp-overflow-hidden pp-min-width-5\">\n<p>Sir Roger, who was knighted in 2014 for services to international business, culture and the City, served as Alderman for the <strong>Ward of Cordwainer<\/strong> having first been elected in 2004.<\/p>\n<p>He was most recently Chair of the Green Finance Institute and a senior banker at SEB in London. Sir Roger was also previously Chair of the Green Finance Initiative, launched in London in 2016 to focus on growing the contribution of the financial sector to the G20 climate agenda, and chaired the UK Government\u2019s Green Finance Taskforce.<\/p>\n<p>Sir Roger was a Trustee of St Paul\u2019s Cathedral Foundation, Chairman of the English Chamber Orchestra charity and the Tenebrae Choir and Co-Founder \u2013 with his wife Clare \u2013 of the City Music Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>He was also past master of the Worshipful Company of Musicians, Governor of Sedbergh School, Honorary Fellow of Trinity College Oxford and Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in the county of Dorset.<\/p>\n<p><b>Lord Mayor of the City of London, William Russell, said:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know that many people across the City and beyond will be greatly saddened by the news of Sir Roger\u2019s death. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSir Roger served the City faithfully for many years.
